Pharmacognosy department deals with the study of biological source, chemistry, biosynthesis, taxonomy, ethnobiology and isolation of natural products obtained from plant, animal, marine and other natural origins. This Department is devoted to natural and herbal medicinal product research in Pharmacy and medicine. We use modern analytical technique to identify, analyse, and purify phytochemicals from plant, animal or marine sources focusing on the characterization of their bioactive secondary metabolites.

Areas of interest include natural products isolation, characterization chemistry and biological studies of phytoconstituents using animal models, herbal cosmetics, novel herbal formulations, and their standardization. The department is being headed by Prof. Ganesh S Diwate and other staff members
